THE BEGINNING
METTRIN Arts Center is a new, ground-breaking hub for the Hungarian arts scene located on the shores of Lake Bánk 50 km from Budapest. The Centre opened its doors on 27 March 2025 as a prestigious venue for Hungarian and international artistic creations in a magical natural setting, with accommodation in a wellness hotel. Its aim is to promote high-quality cultural events, support progressive contemporary art, foster comprehensive and sustainable talent development, and encourage artistic enlightenment through cross-national collaborations.
THE MISSION includes the efficient use of resources, the presentation of multidisciplinary artistic works that provide memorable experiences for audiences of all ages, and the creation of a dynamic community space that fosters both professional and social gatherings. A key element/component of this unique operating model is sustainable and predictable governance/management, allowing for boundless artistic partnerships and the development of a new cultural-tourist network. The center’s artistic concept prioritizes creativity and innovation, focusing on prestigious cultural projects that enhance its reputation.
The METTRIN will also facilitate structured opportunities for Hungarian and international artists to present their work while ensuring a rich and engaging audience experience. In addition to these activities, METTRIN plans to produce its own original productions and further develop the highly successful Louis Armstrong International Jazz Festival. A long-term goal is the creation of an Artists-in-Residence program, providing handpicked artists from around the world with opportunities for professional growth and networking in Bánk.
„We hope that more and more people will discover the unique world of METTRIN on the shores of Lake Bánk, where the tranquility of nature meets a culture of intellectual purity. Through carefully curated and diverse events, we strive to offer visitors a multi-sensory, lifelong experience—an ‘immersive transition’ between natural and artistic environments. We trust that, over time, METTRIN will establish itself as a prominent venue in Hungary and an essential focal point in the global cultural calendar.” – Zoltán Balázs, Artistic Director
