ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE
The METTRIN Arts Center offers artists (individuals and collectives) the opportunity to spend weeks creating at Lake Bánk. The residency programs are tailored to the needs of the guest artists to ensure their research and creative work can unfold under optimal conditions. The environment is designed to allow artists to work professionally, collaborate, and experiment without the pressure of performance. Residents are provided with individual houses/apartments that also serve as accommodation. Upon request, METTRIN organizes informal presentations of the work-in-progress for a selected audience—viewers and professionals interested in emerging works and offering valuable feedback. METTRIN is connected to international art networks and grant opportunities, seeking financial resources and partners to support its residency program and related projects.
Bt.A.I.R.
METTRIN is part of the new European project Bridging the A-I-R: strengthening residency centers for sustainable cultural mobility.
On February 26, 2026, Nová síť introduced the new international project titled Bridging the A-I-R (BtAIR) during the Malá inventura festival. This initiative focuses on strengthening artistic residencies and supporting sustainable cultural mobility in Europe. Nová síť acts as the main coordinator of the project and will develop cooperation between residency centers over the next four years, collaborating with partners from five other European countries, including the METTRIN Arts Center.
The Bridging the Air (BtAIR) project is a 48-month European cultural program that aims to address structural imbalances in the field of artistic residencies. The project is built on the belief that sustainable cultural mobility in Europe depends on systematic support for residency hosts, whose work, expertise, and infrastructure are crucial to the cultural ecosystem.
Core Objectives:
- Decentralize culture: Supporting residency infrastructure outside major metropolitan areas.
- Strengthen host capacities: Providing professional development, resources, and recognition for residency organizers.
- Foster sustainable mobility: Creating reliable cross-border pathways for artists and cultural workers.
Key Activities & Outputs:
- 12 Pilot Residencies: Testing new, innovative models of residencies (e.g., community-based, eco-focused, or research-driven) across six European countries.
- Digital Infrastructure: Creating Slovak and Hungarian versions of the established Czech platform artinres.cz.
- European Hub (btair.eu): Launching a centralized digital library for methodologies, open calls, and best practices in the residency sector.
