ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE
TEREZA VEJVODOVÁ IS JOINING METTRIN AS ONE OF THE FIRST PARTICIPANTS IN THE EXPERIMENTAL ART RESIDENCY PROGRAM LAUNCHED BY ARAS AND THE CZECH CENTERS.
ARAS, in collaboration with the Czech Centers, the Czech Center in Budapest, and the METTRIN Arts Center, is launching an experimental residency program for filmmakers. The first participant is director and screenwriter Tereza Vejvodová with her film project FLORA, which explores themes of identity in today’s world, our relationship with nature, and the search for security. The residency program will take place in April–May 2026 in Hungary, at METTRIN.
ARAS – Association of Czech Film Directors, Screenwriters, and Script Editors is an exclusive organization of professional Czech film and television directors.
TEREZA VEJVODOVÁ is a Czech film director, screenwriter, and audiovisual artist who works in the fields of narrative, documentary, and experimental short films. In her work, she combines cinematic language with visual art, sound design, and philosophical and scientific principles. She explores questions of identity, mental health, the influence of technology, and contemporary emotional experiences.
The film project FLORA follows a couple facing a relationship and existential crisis amid ecological and social uncertainty. In an abandoned area on the border between the city and nature, in the so-called Steppe, their relationship and their view of the world gradually transform. Thanks to their ability to share vulnerability and uncertainty, they find their way back to each other.
The film, based on a novel by Jonáš Zbořil, deals with socio-ecological themes and explores the tension between technological civilization and natural processes. The screenwriter interprets the Steppe as a Central European “interstitial space” a landscape shaped by memories of garden colonies, urban transformation, and the pressure of contemporary development projects. Motifs of resilience and care for the landscape, relationships, and future generations—play an important role in the project.
